The architecture team at Rolf Ockert Design completed the development of a modern extension to a heritage dwelling in Sydney. The project, entitled 46 North Avenue, aimed at providing additional living space for a young family with children: “Being only about 100m2 in size, the existing free-standing house was far too small for its intended use. The only way to accommodate the intended brief was to build a two storey addition, something that did not exist in the area”, explained the architects.

The difference in style between the two buildings is striking. On the one hand, we have a charming looking heritage one-level construction, with a brick facade. On the other, a gum tree grey, minimalist addition, with a rectangular geometry. A strong feature of this new project however is its interior design, ranking high in originality and style. The extensive use of color give the place a homey feel throughout, almost defying its exterior soberness. The living room is particularly bright and welcoming, with its delightful paintings casually enhancing the space.
